Plantation Shutters
Plantation shutters can provide privacy, light control, insulation, security, increased kerb appeal and with low maintenance. Here at Bishops of Sussex, we have teamed up with the UK’s leading distributors of plantation window shutters to provide a full range of materials, configuration options and colours, using sustainable products where possible.
Sustainability
Our wooden shutters are sourced by the factory, from managed and sustainable forests. Furthermore, our engineered wood shutters are produced from Radiata Pine forests that reach maturity in about 30 years. The manufacturing plant where the engineered wood is produced, is virtually self-sufficient and are considered greenhouse gas neutral under the Kyoto Protocol.
Insulation
Shutters help to keep rooms cooler in the summer months but our shutters also provide another layer of home insulation and help keep cold and draft out in the winter months. Also, we have previously installed them in large open plan homes as room dividers to cut down on the area that needs to be heated in the winter.

Styles
Options
On top of a vast range of configuration options and styles, we can also provide power motion shutters that allow seamless motorisation of the louvre positions. We can fit shutters with the auto close function, so the louvres close when the bi-fold shutter is opened, to save heating to manually close the louvres before opening the shutters.
Colours
We have a popular standard range of colours, but we can colour match to any colour you like!
What You Need to Consider
Material
Engineered wood, wood or ABS. Engineered wood is the most cost effective but heavier. Wood is lighter and can give a better finish. It can also be done in any shape. ABS is our solution for wet or steamy areas and can be fully submerged in water.
Size
A small louvre can provide more privacy but a larger louvre can let in more light and keep the view open.
Further Plantation Shutter Considerations
Matching
We will always try to match the shutters to your existing window frames where possible. So have a think about panels and splits.
Opening Time
Although most people keep their shutters closed and only open and close the louvers, you may still need to think about opening a window. So folding or opening shutters can be important.
